Holidays With No Pictures

This past New Year's Eve was the most fun I've had on that holiday in quite a while! We hung out with the Deskos next door, putting together the dinners we had each planned to eat separately to make a nice feast. Megan made some cookies for dessert and Andrew brewed a pot of coffee. We let the kids play a while and then put them in jammies. They eventually went to bed, and we got to work playing Scattergories! We ended up playing the ENTIRE set of lists before midnight and laughed a lot along the way! All of the adults rang in the New Year with the ball drop on TV and some sparkling grape juice.

We also celebrated Epiphany this year. We had two couples over for a dinner of roast beef, mashed potatoes, and veggies. I made a coffee cake for dessert and had even put a bean in it (per Epiphany tradition), but of course the piece that was left had the bean! We read the biblical account of the wise men, drank apple cider, and had a great night visiting with friends. I also wanted to leave the Christmas decorations up at least through Epiphany. Often it seems that December is a whirlwind month of preparation, with little time to enjoy everything once the holiday arrives. Our Epiphany celebration was part of an attempt to draw out the celebration a bit and savor the season before letting it go.

Our anniversary was the next holiday on the calendar, and Jimmy and I had a wonderful date night. We went to P.F. Chang's and enjoyed diner from the Prie Fixe menu. Crab wontons, soup, chicken main courses, and red velvet cake were all served. It was delicious! It was a really relaxed evening with good conversation and nowhere to be but there. This year we celebrated 5 years of marriage! I really wish I had taken a picture of the two of us, but our evening was over by the time I thought about it!
